Who was Michael Jackson?
Known as "King of Pop", Michael Joseph Jackson was a bestselling American singer, songwriter, and dancer. As a kid, Jackson became the lead singer of his family's popular motto group, Jackson 5. In his later years, Jackson pleaded guilty to child molestation charges. He died in 2009 at the age of 50 from a drug overdose before embarking on a return trip.

Early life of Michael Jackson
Jackson was born on August 29, 1958, in Gary, Indiana. Under his father's tutelage, Jackson's musical career began at the age of five.
He was the 8th of 10 children in the Jackson family, an African-American family working class in a two-bedroom house on Jackson Street.
His mother, Catherine Esther Jackson, played the clarinet and the piano. His father, Joseph Verter "J" Jackson, a former boxer, was a crane operator at US Steel and played guitar with a local rhythm and blues band, the Falcons, to supplement the family's income.
Michael said his father told him he had a "fat nose", and was regularly physically and emotionally abused during rehearsals.
In a 1993 interview with Oprah Winfrey, Jackson stated that his youth was a place of loneliness and isolation.

In 1964, Michael and Marlon joined the Jackson Brothers - a band formed by their father - featuring Jackie, Tito, and Germain-backup musicians playing kings and tambourines.
